Armenian Rug Design Pen

$7.50

Pen designed from Karachoph Kazak, 1913. Karachoph is situated near Lake Sevan in Armenia. The name of this village has been applied to those Kazaks distinguished by square proportions and the use of four small corner medalions to balance a lare square or cruciform central one. The design of this medallion suggests the floor plan of a traditional Armenian church. In this example the use of color is rich but restrained and the design achieves rare elegance. Rugs of this vintage were the last of their kind to be woven in the Caucasus.
